Aphasia

Aphasia is an acquired language disorder that can impact expressive and receptive language. It is mostly commonly diagnosed after a stroke or head injury. There are many types of aphasia and severity greatly varies. Treatment is modified based on type and severity.

Apraxia

Verbal apraxia causes difficulty with the skilled movements required from the tongue, lips, and and jaw to produce speech. Acquired apraxia of speech is most often caused by head injury, stroke, or tumor.

Cognition

There are many potential causes of cognitive impairments. Cognitive impairments can result in problems with memory, processing language, and more. Speech therapy can help you improve cognitive skills and/or learn compensatory strategies.

Dysarthria

Dysarthria refers to difficulty speaking due to weakness, damage, or paralysis in the muscles used for speech. Your speech can improve with use of therapeutic strategies.

Dysphagia

Dysphagia is difficulty swallowing. In speech therapy you can learn swallowing strategies to help make your swallow safer. You can also learn how to follow a least restrictive diet (opt for safest foods/drinks to consume).

Voice

There are many types of voice disorders that can make your voice feel or sound harsh, strained, breathy, hoarse, or gravelly. Speech therapy can help you improve your vocal quality.
